Day 66

So this is the view from our hotel room when we woke up on Saturday morning. The wind was blowing like crazy and it's hard to tell but the white in the photo is actually snow. It was blowing horizontal.

While we were at breakfast, a large pine tree across the street blew over and landed on, what looked like some power or cable lines and just hung there.

It was an interesting day!

Day 65

We took a short trip for the weekend and this is the hotel we stayed in. I really like the symmetry of the image with the sets of stairs in between the frame of the building, the balconies and the lights.

Day 64

This is a photo looking outside from the building where I work. I admit it's not the greatest photo but I like how the building, the shrubs and the pine tree create a frame for the grass, the parking lot and the sky.

Day 63

I'm pretty sure I've mentioned that I like sunsets and sunrises. I will probably end up with quite a few of each in the next year.

This photo doesn't really capture what I was seeing but I thought I would use it anyway. Sometimes it's hard to capture, with a camera, what your eyes see. I'm still trying to figure out how to do that better.

Day 61


My son picked up a yo-yo today and in looking at the inside, I thought it offered a nice photo op. I'm not sure what all the parts inside there do, but it made for an interesting photo.

Day 60

I got my wife some flowers for Valentines Day and I really like the color of this one. I like pictures of flowers because of the color and texture that they have. I'm a little anxious for spring to get here so we can have the flowers in bloom and some more photo opportunities.

Day 59

We were out for a walk today and walking under this bridge presented an opportunity for a shot of the river and the walking path going in different directions. I have recently seen an article about adding depth to your photos. I didn't read the entire article but I think this is a good demonstration of adding depth to an image. I like the almost silhouette of the bridge structure with just enough light to see some detail and then the river and path disappearing in the distance.

Day 58

I got this photo on my too work again. The sunrise was beautiful.

One thing I have noticed about sunrises and sunsets is that you don't usually have a lot of time to capture the real color in them. I tried several shots of this sunrise and in the span of about 4 minutes, the sky went from these bright colors to just a colorless gray. I loving watching the colors change over that small span of time.

Day 57

I took today's photo on the way to work. I wish I could have gotten a little more color in the sunrise but I like how I could see the sunrise and the moon at the same time.

I have often thought it would be cool to get a picture of the sun just coming up and include the moon in the same shot. For now, I would need a wider angle lens than I have or I would need to find a place to get a reflection of the sun coming up while viewing the moon above the reflection.

Day 56

Overnight last night we finally got a little snow. We haven't had much of that this year. I took this photo before I left for work this morning. The snow must have come down a little sideways since it is stuck to the one side of the basketball pole and the lamp post. It was also stuck to the one side of all the trees.

Day 55

Today's photos are of some birds I observed through the front window of our home. I got several photos and I wanted to use more than one so I put them together as one image. I'm not sure what type of birds these are but they were sure making a racket outside the house.

Day 44

This a photo of part of a large clock that we have in our home. I waited to long to get a photo outside today so I was roaming the house looking for a photo opportunity. I ended up taking a couple photos of the clock and decided to use this one.

Day 43

You may be wondering about this photo. I wanted to try the macro function on my camera again. This is a very close up photo of a rug. I took several images similar to this one but this was the best of the bunch. I could really get into macro photography.

I have seen lots of macro photos on the internet and they fascinate me.

Day 42

My wife saw this bird out our back window this morning. We watched it for awhile and I got some decent photos. We did notice that while this bird was hanging around there were no little birds which frequent the area behind our home. We figured that this guy was looking for some breakfast and the other birds were aware of that and no where to be found.

I saw a photo on Google+ the day after I took these that identified the bird correctly but I can't seem to find that photo again and I can't remember what kind of bird it said this was. If anyone knows, leave me a comment.

Day 41

This was the sunset that I drove into on my way home from work today. I really like how I was able to capture the sun between the clouds just above the horizon.

Day 40

I was out for a walk during my lunch hour again today. There are a lot of squirrels running around the path where we walk. I know that there are lots of squirrel photos out there but I thought this one turned out pretty well. I like how there are branches in front of and behind the squirrel, it gives some depth to the photo.

Day 39

I think I mentioned earlier that I like photos of the moon. Tonight's moon was a little yellow due to some haze in the air. It also came up behind the clouds. I took several shots while the moon and the clouds were moving. I'm not sure I like this shot, I would have preferred to use my DSLR for this photo but I didn't have it with me. I think it would do a better job.

Day 38

I already took a photo of this building but I like the building. I was actually able to see the photo before I took this one. I will probably take more images of this building. I should probably take them from outside my car. :)

Day 37

I guess it's the week of sayings. I noticed this sign at the end of the week last week but I wasn't quick enough to get my camera out and get a picture. Today I was able to get my camera out and traffic cooperated so I was able to snap a photo. I know it's not really a great photo but I like the saying.

Day 36

We were out for a walk this afternoon and I noticed the words on the manhole cover. I normally wouldn't take a photo of something like this but it kind of cracked me up. It seems like an oxymoron to have a "Sanitary Sewer".

Day 35

We haven't seen much snow where we live this winter. We got to see some snow at the camp out. I got some nice photos of the area where we camped but I really like this photo of the ice on the trees.

Day 34

I have to give credit to my son for this photo. We were going on a scout winter camp and driving to the location. He took this photo for me while we had some light left. I like the silhouette of the trees, the shadow on the foreground mountain and light on the distant mountain with the blue of the sky.

Day 33

I liked the coloring of this sign. I don't usually get a photo like this because I have trouble taking pictures of lights. I used the program setting on my camera and this is the result.

Day 32

We had rain today and I liked the look of the raindrops on the roof of my car. I have wanted to try out the macro feature of my camera and this presented a good opportunity. I found that the macro setting lets you use the digital zoom to be able to focus really close to your subject. I think the picture  turned out really well.

Day 31

I was out for a walk at lunch today and was able to get a reflection photo of this building. I have walked past there several times and thought it would make a nice image. I actually took several photos of this building but I think one was the best of the group.

Day 30

Today's photo was part of our dinner. I was trying to capture the steam from the cooking vegetables but I don't think it turned out very well.
