Day 29

We were back at the same park for a walk this afternoon and I got a picture of a large group of geese taking off flying towards the sun. I liked this image because of the colors, the contrast, and I think I even managed to use the rule of thirds while not really trying.

Day 28

We were out for a walk this afternoon and came across this pond that was frozen in a few places. It kind of looks like the geese are walking on water. The ice was melting while we watched and several of the geese were in one spot when the ice broke right under them. They all just sank into the pond.

Day 27

This is an image of a keyboard that I use for editing videos. It is color coded for the different functions that you can perform on the system. I like the colors on the keyboard.

Day 26

I have wanted to capture some images of this building for a long time. I do plan to go back for some more photos at a later date.

I was stopped at the traffic light and poked my camera out the window and tilted it where I thought it would capture the building and this is what I got. I really like the image, especially since I didn't see what it was going to look like until after I had snapped the shutter.

I really like the architecture of this building. It's kind of an odd design but it is fascinating to me.

Day 25

I captured this photo of a building across the parking lot from where I work as the sun was setting in the West. I have noticed this building a few times with the sun reflecting off the windows and was able to capture it for my image today.

It's not my favorite photo but I really like reflections and I think this one is a good example of the sun reflecting off the windows...

Day 24

Today's image shows the amount of frost that was on all the vehicles after a very cold night.

I confess that I manipulated this photo as the original image was very dark since it was dark when I took it. I tinted the photo and lightened it up a bit. You can see that the frost has made the windows totally opaque and it's a little hard to see but the frost has completely covered the exterior of the vehicle.

Day 23

As I was leaving work tonight, a Blue Heron flew right over me. My camera was in the car so I missed that chance for a great image. A flying Blue Heron has a long wingspan and it was pretty cool.  As I continued walking to my car, I looked up at the sky and there was another Blue Heron sitting on top of one of the parking lot lights. I hurried to my car and came back and managed to snap a couple photos before he flew away.

I have somewhat of a fascination with the Blue Heron. Several years ago I got some great pictures of bird on the Oregon coast but I wasn't sure what it was until we got back home and asked someone to help me identify the bird in my photos. It turned out it was Blue Heron and ever since I have found them very interesting to observe.

Day 22



So today's picture is of our dinner. I put off getting a picture earlier in the day but after I had my plate dished up, I thought the colors of the food and the color of the plate made a nice image.

Day 21

I couldn't resist snapping a shot of the cookies we bought at the store today. They taste as good as they look.  :)

Day 20

Today's image is of one of the pieces of equipment that I use often in my job. I had been thinking of what I could capture today and the mixer caught my eye.  I may try and take photos of other equipment I use in my line of work over time.

I like the lines of all the knobs. There are straight and diagonal lines and then I tried to get some of the mixer in focus and have some of it be out of focus. I could probably have done a better job with that with my DSLR but I think it turned out alright.

Day 19

We had our first snow of the season yesterday and then it rained over night and this is what is left of the snow.

I suppose there is something good about it, the snow came and was pretty white for most of the day and now it is almost all gone.  We didn't have to see if turn gray and then brown while it melted over time.

Day 18

Today, we had the first real snow storm in the Boise area this season. We were really excited for the snow. We missed having a white Christmas but I guess better late than never.

Day 17

Driving home from work this afternoon, the sky to the West was really dark and I thought it was a nice backdrop to some of the buildings downtown.  This photo didn't really turn out the way I had hoped as the sky isn't really dark enough and I'm trying not to make any changes in Photoshop before uploading images for this project. I even tried a couple of the scene modes on my camera but I think the black and white shot turned out the best.

Day 16

I have taken reflection images in the past using chrome speakers, and other reflective surfaces. I really like the image that you get from this. Today's image was taken on the back of a side view mirror on a Mini Cooper car.

The cool thing about images like this is that it looks like an image taken with a fish-eye lens but it's not. One thing that someone pointed out to me is that if take an image like this, you are always in the center of the picture. I hadn't really paid attention to that but looking back through my reflection pictures bears this out.

Day 15

We were out for a walk this afternoon/evening and the sun was going down as we were heading back to the car. In this image I was trying to capture the suns rays but I'm not sure I really got them.

I'm also starting to use some of the scene modes on my camera to see what kind of an effect they have on the overall picture. For this photo I used the sunset scene mode. I think this mode adds warmth and deeper coloring to the overall photo.

Day 14

We still have some leaves in our yard that didn't fall off the trees until later in the fall. I have seen many photos of leaves and I really like the rust colors. I like this particular image because there is  just a small patch of green to contrast the browns and yellows of the dead leaves.

Day 13

Today's photo is a sunset. I love the colors of sunset and have taken hundreds of photos of sunsets. I took this shot on my way home from work. This image doesn't compare to some of the sunsets that we get here but it was a good one. I like the coloring and lines in the clouds. I probably should have put the horizon a little higher to be more in line with the rule of thirds but I think it turned out well.

Day 12

I had several photo opportunities today, but I liked this one the best. I was sitting in traffic waiting for a light and saw the lines and patterns on this building. I sit at the same light most nights when coming home from work. I don't know what was different tonight but I snapped a photo. If I were to use this photo for anything but this project, I would try and Photoshop out the light pole as I think it takes away from the image.

Day 11

I waited today to get a photo until it was almost dark. I was outside attempting to find something to shoot and this plant caught my eye. I think I might have taken a photo of it during the summer when it was in bloom but now that it is winter, the plant holds a different meaning. From the top, the plant looks like an alien or maybe a weird spider...

Day 10

I was coming home from the dentist today and the sky was cloudy but you could see the sun like it might look in an eclipse. Fortunately, I had my camera with me so I was able to get a picture of the sun through the clouds. I think it is really cool when the sun is hidden like this because you look directly at it without going blind.

Day 9 

Today's photo is a picture of my daughter's snuggie. I was looking at while she was laying on the couch and decided that I liked the pattern so I grabbed my camera and snapped a photo.

Day 8 

Today I saw this dog sitting in a parked car. He watched us for a minute and then turned away when I tried to take his picture. We made some noise and got him to look back at us.

Day 7

My shot for today was at the library. We had a little breeze and it was blowing the flag so I waited for a moment when the flag was mostly extended and snapped the photo.

Day 6

I tried again for the shot I was hoping for yesterday. The photo didn't turn out like I had visualized it but I am using the shot anyway. The photo is a daytime version of the shot I took yesterday. I was hoping for a little more blue in the window reflection of the sky.

I have a habit of taking lots of photos and my goal for this project is to take one or two photos each day so that I don't have to try and sort through a folder and pick out the best one. I'm hoping this part of the exercise will help improve my photography.

Day 5

I had in mind a photo for today but there were too many clouds to try the shot I was hoping for. I ended up waiting until it was almost dark and so I tried this shot. It is a view from ground level looking up through the atrium ceiling in the building where I work.

Day 4

Today's picture happened first thing this morning. I was fixing lunch for my kids and thought that a photo of the lunches would be a good start for the day.

Day 3

I saw the moon framed by this tree when I was leaving the office tonight. I find the moon somewhat fascinating. I tried for a long time to get pictures and they always turned out too bright. I was reading on the About.Com Photography site one day about how to shoot the moon and since then, I have had much success with shooting the moon.

DAY 2

Today's picture represents the weather were I live. It's the 2nd of Jan and we should have some snow on the ground but it's supposed to be in the upper 40's and no chance of snow, or any precipitation of any kind today.

DAY 1
It thought it would be appropriate to start the year with a picture of me. This is a quick self portrait I took while we were out for a walk on New Year's day.
